Our 'Meet the Distributor' posts showcases our partners and the vital work they do. This time we meet Matthew Travers Tauss from Strand Marine & Auto Systems, who represent Mastervolt in Malta. 

Tell us a little more about yourself and the company, and how you became to be a Mastervolt distributor?

"Strand Marine has been a Mastervolt distributor since 1993. We are a family business that was founded in 1990 by my father, and I took over the ‘reins’ in 2007. So, I have worked with Mastervolt ever since I have been involved with the business."

What are the key Mastervolt products you sell? Do you have a most popular product?

"Our key products are the batteries and battery chargers. Most of our customers are from the marine sector, specifically yachts in transit since Malta is an important stop-off point for yachts in the Mediterranean. My favourite thing about working with Mastervolt is having absolute trust in the product, and the aftersales support from the very knowledgeable staff at Mastervolt HQ. It is great to know our customers can rely on great aftersales care all over the world thank to this, and the global dealer network. My favourite product would have to be the MLI Ultra Lithium Ion batteries. This is a product that Mastervolt were ahead of the competition with, and that head-start proved crucial when perfecting the product by the time the market caught up and demand increased."

There have been giant advances in the technology used with powered electronics in recent years. What has been the biggest change or development for you?

"The biggest change has been the increased complexity on board yachts, and the increased demand for power on board, which in turn has been driven by a rise in demand from yacht owners for more simplicity and functionality. Most shipyards have had to catch up with the rising expectations of customers due to these emerging technologies in other fields, as many boat owners now expect this kind of integrated approach to control all systems as standard on board their boats too. My team and I have had to expand our technical knowledge and know-how. The training sessions provided by Mastervolt HQ have been great to allow us to do this."

Can you tell us about any particular exciting projects you are working on at the moment?

"One of our latest projects is the solar-powering of Seabins in Malta. This is a great product working to clean the oceans which is to be powered by Mastervolt. The project is part of or Corporate and Social Responsibility plan and watch this space as hopefully there will be more news and a case study about this soon!"
